WHERE DID YOU GROW UP? I was born in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia I grew up on the east coast, living near St. Helens. I spent my summers fishing, swimming at the beach and reading books in bush built cubby houses. WHAT WERE YOUR FAVOURITE SUBJECTS AT SCHOOL? Art, English and history were always at the top of the list. I loved sport and played on the school hockey team, netball team, and competed in cross country finals and athletics. WHAT JOBS HAVE YOU HAD? I have had a lot of jobs so I won't bore you with them all but the most interesting ones have been: Window dresser/shop display designer; Computer hardware maintenance & repairer; Art teacher; Cooking teacher; Woodwork teacher; Artist-in-residence; and of course, Author and Illustrator. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD? I love Thai green curry. I like a lot of things, but Thai food is my favourite. Oh, and chocolate, fruit, and middle eastern inspired food as well. |
WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
I live in Tasmania. I have lived in NSW, but we moved back to our island home because we like it here. I live with my family near the beach with our Basenji-Fox Terrier, Max. DID YOU ALWAYS WANT TO WRITE BOOKS? No. I always wanted to illustrate them though. Then, one day I had the chance to illustrate and I haven't stopped since. One day someone suggested that I try writing, so I gave it a try and discovered I loved it just as much as illustrating. WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE AUTHOR? That is a hard question to answer. I like a lot of authors. My favourite when I was growing up was Astrid Lindgren, I loved Pippy Longstocking and Astrid's special saga, The Brothers Lionheart. I also loved anything by Roald Dahl and C.S. Lewis. I read lots of books about war, including The Diary of Anne Frank and The Endless Steppe. As a grown up I still love to read picture books as well as novels for children and adults. I really like Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, books by Cecelia Ahern, Michael Morpurgo and many others.
